So, it’s finally Father’s Day here in the United States, Chrissettes. If you’ve been following me on the blog for a while, you may already know that both of my parents were some of my biggest and still are! style icons growing up.

Since it’s Father’s Day, I thought it would be a great way to show you just exactly how my dad influences my style to this day through five different OOTDs I’ve worn very recently.

Oversized Outerwear

Although I have credited Momma B for my love of oversized shirts, Poppa B got me into oversized outerwear. Ever since I was a kid, I’d always notice his huge coats hanging near the door, and I’d always wear them when he wasn’t around sorry not sorry.

In one of my posts from last year, I used this brick red utility jackets I got it from the men’s section, just an fyi alongside this OOTD I like to call the Model Off Duty or at least one type, if you know what I mean?.

It’s the perfect way to turn any outfit into something your favorite street style icons like Rihanna would wear like this one here.

Vintage Outerwear

Speaking of which, another type of outerwear became one of my favorites and that’s all vintage.

Since my dad was heavily into sports back when I was younger – he used to coach basketball and got me into it for a while – he’d often be wearing some of the coolest shirts and jackets, this one being one of my all time favorites.

I haven’t exactly written a blog post on this yet, so I’ll be doing so in the future- look out for it!

Button Ups

Although it is a little tricky to determine if it was Momma B or Poppa B who got me into button up shirts, but I like to think they both did in their own way, with my mom bringing in the class and my dad being more structured with his.

Thanks to their different tastes, it’s allowed me to figure out what a button up means to me, and so far it’s a combination of both.

Athleisure

To me, my dad started the athleisure movement. For as long as I could remember, he made track suits stylish and look on trend, even more so with his love for brand names (think Adidas and Nike).

To be frank, when I was younger, I wasn’t fond of it. Maybe it was the Juicy Couture tracksuits that made me cringe a little I just can’t like them, sorry!, but aside from that, athletic clothing wasn’t interesting enough, at least for me, to give it a shot.

But like everyone, we evolve as time goes by, and I very much love the resurgence of the tracksuits my dad would used to always wear once more.

Matching Colors

My style is mostly minimalist with the occasional eclectic piece here and there thanks to both of my parents. But what stood out to me were my dad’s matching tracksuits, my favorite being a bright yellow one from his coaching days.

It’s because of this that I have to match at least one part of my outfit with another, and I don’t care if I’m breaking any fashion rules I’m looking whoever said you can’t match the color of your shoes with your bag. I guess you can also say that Poppa B brings out the more daring side of my wardrobe out, too.

So, Dad, thank you for not only being one of my style icons, but for also being my dad, aka Poppa B. I know you’ll end up reading this, and I hope you’ll love it as much as I loved writing it.

This one’s for you.

Happy Father’s Day.

  1. Love this post! Dads can definitely have such an effect on style! Personally, my dad has influenced my button up game as well. My dad has also taught me to dress well for lights and important meetings. I got my taste in blazers from him as well!

    1. I totally agree! It’s so interesting how the people close to us can have an influence on style. That’s so awesome! I love hearing stories like this! 🙂 x

  2. Never thought there could be an OOTD Dad inspired themes.. hehehe this one is new to me! But all of these outfits are pretty cool and I don’t think you’re breaking any fashion rules… 👍

  3. Please thank your dad for the athleisure movement!! Athleisure is my favorite right now 🙂 Also, those Levis’ black denim are to die for. Did you get them directly from Levis’ site?

  4. This is such a cute post and tribute to your dad for Father’s day. To be honest, I’ve never been inspired by my dad’s outfits with exceptions of when I was younger I would wear his jacket or coat when I was cold and it felt extra warm because it is so oversized and you just feel like being protected by dad. Very sweet.

  5. This is probably the most unique post I’ve seen involving Father’s Day!! I love it, and I love your style girl! Do you take the pics yourself? Or do you have a photographer?

    1. Thank you so much! I had already blogged about Father’s Day last year, and I didn’t want to do it again. I take my own photos for the most part; I’ve collaborated with others before, but I tend to take the majority of them. x

  6. fab outfits, the interesting part is the fact that they were inspired by fathers day. sure they rock and they push and inspire us to do and achieve alot.

  7. Wow. such a great idea! I love all your looks (but firs one is my favourite one). I really like your style. You know how to combine clothes. That is so great when you learn how to dress from your parents.

  8. Such a smart idea to steal your dad’s outerwear! I’m amazed with how feminine you made it look and work so well with this look 🙂 Athleisure is what I live in! It’s just so easy to throw on 🙂
