Chrissy uses a jade face roller on her skin.

Hi Chrissettes!

So, today’s post is going to be a little different than the ones you’re already used to seeing because this time I’ll be sharing with you my favorite skincare essentials during the wintertime. 🙂

My Skin Type

Just like you, your skin has what I like to call moods since it changes alongside the seasons. Normally, my skin type is labeled as combination, meaning that I have a mixture of both dry and oily, not to mention I have acne prone skin.

But since it’s the winter season, my skin is even more prone to dryness rather than oiliness, mostly due to the environment.

So, what does this mean?

To break it down, every season requires some changes to your skincare routine, even more so if you have skin like mine. If I had written this during the summer, I would have added or removed a few of the skincare products I used during the winter season and vice versa. The reasoning behind this is because every season, your skin needs different products for different skin issues. What might be a period of dry skin during one season can turn into an oily situation in another.

That’s why it’s so important to understand and know your skin type.

Not sure what kind of skin you have?

One of the ways I learned about my skin was actually visiting Sephora. Depending on where you go, you can set an appointment or even walk-in for Skincare IQ, one of their beauty services. I highly recommend it if you aren’t too sure what skin type you are or if you’re trying to find the best products that match your skin to a T.

Charcoal and Even More Charcoal

Currently, I’m using two activated charcoal products: a Biore soap bar and a face mask/scrub from Freeman’s, charcoal has become a huge part in my skincare routine since it is capable of drawing toxins and chemicals to the surface of my skin, resulting in a flawless complexion. Also, it’s perfect for all skin types, including acne prone.

Plus, it leaves my skin with an extra clean, refreshing feeling, too, which feels absolutely amazing!

Anti-Acne Face Wash

The one I’m currently obsessed with is by Clearasil. I was actually introduced to this particular product by my boyfriend, and since then I’ve been hooked.

Called Clearasil Ultra Acne + Marks Wash and Mask, this face mask/wash has done wonders on my skin in the long run, helping eradicate old acne scars while preventing new acne most of the time. It’s not one of those products that magically vanishes your acne scars in a few days, so I wouldn’t recommend this product if you’re interested in speedy results. However, if you are, try the Ultra Rapid version, which you can get here.

Also, if you have dry skin and want to use this, be sure to not leave it on any longer than the suggested time of one minute. Otherwise, you can literally feel the dryness.

Witchy Face Toner

I’ve raved about this toner from Dickinson’s a ton on my random Instagram stories because I feel like it’s basically an essential for any budget and any season. Called Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Pore Perfecting Toner, according to the website it “gently removes oils and impurities leaving your skin feeling soft, smooth and hydrated without harsh or confusing ingredients contained in other toners.”

Plus, I got their hugest bottle for around $5 at Walmart. Talk about a steal!

The Brightening Serum

I love having a glowy, natural complexion. To me, this part is one of the most essential as using a brightening serum helps maintain that au natural glow as well as fighting off unwanted acne, provides intense hydration, and strengthens the cells on your skin.

The one I’m currently using is a Vitamin C drop by Klairs, a Korean skincare brand. I’ve been using it over a little of two months now, and the results are amazing! I used to have an issue with having dull skin, but after using this, I’ve gotten so many compliments on how my complexion is clearer and glowing.

Face Rollers

Ever since face rollers became all the rage sometime back in 2010-2012, face rollers are such a great way to kick off a DIY mini spa session. Most of the time, I use a Jade face roller after putting on my skincare products of the day/night, but I have seen people use them before applying on their skincare, too.

Face rollers are a great way to make sure that your skincare products penetrate through the skin, depuff your face, and make your pores and blood vessels smaller.
