Chrissy Baclagan at the historic Weissmiller Pool at the Lafayette Hotel, San Diego

Hi Chrissettes!

Summer’s officially in the air this lovely July, especially here in San Diego it’s been cloudy the past couple weeks, aka my kind of weather. While summer isn’t exactly my favorite season, I still enjoy the lovely blue skies, longer daytimes, and being by the water.

Speaking of which, if you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you may have known I’d be blogging about one of San Diego’s coolest hotels. Called the Lafayette Hotel, it’s located in the super chic neighborhood of North Park which explains why it’s pretty cool. Built in 1964 by Larry Imig, he hoped to one day have his hotel become a historical icon. After numerous shifts in owners and a bit of renovating here and there, the Lafayette still retains that vintage old glamour that’s loved by many people today.

A while ago, I had the chance to be a model for a fun, summer shoot at the hotel. With the theme being very floral and Hawaii-esque, I couldn’t have been more excited, especially since I had just gotten a new bathing suit which you’ll see in just a little bit 😉.

For the first shoot, I worked with Jax Connolly of Jax Connolly Photo to shoot some amazing handmade jewelry by Handcrafted Jewels, and it’s one of my favorite moments from last month so far. I can’t even begin to list down all the hilarious conversations behind these stunning photos but they do go along with smizing and grabbing your girlfriends, if you get what I mean? 😉

And this is also where I got to show off my two piece I got from Forever 21 or at least the top half with these vintage Levi’s I wear almost everyday, a cute pair of hoop earrings, and the mules. Don’t worry- I’ve linked most of them here, but if you’re mobile, you’ll have an easier time on this app

It may or may not have been the architecture fanatic that’s living inside of me, but I was drooling over this sign as well as the colonial exterior. To this day, I’m still kicking myself for not taking more photos of just this area meaning that I’ll be back sometime if the future <3.

Yes, those are my stretch marks, but I love them.

Another one of my favorite locations is the famous Weissmuller pool. Having been built by a five-time gold medalist Johnny Weissmuller, the pool today still resembles an Olympic swimming pool with its vertical stripes and nearly-there length- it’s just two inches shorter!. It was also here I found out that Florence Chadwell, the woman who swam across the English Channel, not only used to train here, but was also a local.

If you’ve read through my blog before, you may have heard of Erica before since we collaborated for a different street style shoot in North Park as well as a rustic wedding photoshoot a while ago. Since the day I first met her, she’s easily one of the sweetest people I’ve ever known, and like every photo she’s taken, it turns out magical every single time.

Being a brand ambassador for Lynt, a local athleisure brand, I switched my outfit into this cute, floral one piece shown above. Having blogged about them before, all of Lynt’s bodysuits are extremely versatile yes, you can wear this at the beach and get away with it just like I did, hehe.

Although I didn’t stay here for the night, the Lafayette here in San Diego left its mark on me with its history, it’s stunning architecture, and this photoshoot. While I’ll never love summertime as much as I love autumn and winter, it’s memories like this that make me love it just a lil bit more.

  1. Probably one of my favourite summer memories was spending a week in Croatia for a musics festival by the beach. It was my first time in Croatia and I would certainly return. The people was friendly, the beaches were fantastic and the food was delicious 🙂

    1. That sounds so amazing! Croatia is on my travel bucketlist as well, and this make me more excited to go. x

    1. They really are! Hard to look away. Summer used to be one of my favorite seasons, but I’ve since realized that I love Spring more, then Fall/Autumn, followed by Winter, and lastly Summer. 🙂

      1. I can totally relate! I used to love summer to the point where it came right after winter, but not so much anymore. 🙂 x

    1. It’s a cool spot. I’ve been living here for a couple years now, and I only recently learned of the Lafayette, haha. The jewelry is so gorgeous! x

  2. Your photos always remind me of those from Vogue magazine. Stunning!! San Diego is on my bucket list to visit one day. Your outfits are just perfect and your manicure, sorry but also perfect!!! Love your blog xx

    1. Aw, thank you soooo much!! I’m inspired by fashion campaigns, so I try to recreate that as much as I can. Yessss!!! Come visit someday and we can meet up for coffee! x

  3. I love how artistic your photos are. The jewelry is so pretty and now I want those rings you are wearing. I also watched your video and love your editing. Any suggestions on where we can meet up in North Park 🙂

    1. Thanks, Candy! For the most part, I’m inspired by fashion campaigns, so I try to reflect that as much as I can. We can meet up at Commune, if you’re down for it? 🙂 x

  4. My favorite vacation memories always include a vacation of some sort. Also, where did you get those beautiful rings? I can’t stop swooning over them!

  5. Wow! You look amazing! This hotel looks awesome. I’ve visited San Diego before, but this my first time learning about this hotel. It looks like a great place to get some shots. I’ll definitely have to add it to my list for when I visit again.

  6. One of my favourite summer memories is a holiday in the northern part of New Zealand called Bay of Islands. Such a beautiful place and the weather is just lovely pretty much all year round. We got right to the end of the island and saw where the 2 oceans (Tasman and Pacific) meet. Spectacular!
